Being sixty is so much to look forward. They enjoying countless of benefits as the Expanded Senior Citizens Act of 2010 (Republic Act 9994) defines the privileges all senior citizens are entitled to.
Elderly Filipinos aged 60 and above are entitled to a 20% senior citizen discount and exempted from the value-added tax (VAT) on applicable goods and services for their exclusive use. These privileges apply to both cash and credit card payments. Moreover they get discounts from medical services, transportation, restaurants, hotels accommodation and amenities, recreation center, places of leisure, funeral and burial services.
But far more to these perks, there are many things we could say about them. We admire their tenacity, their work ethic, and what they have made of their lives. These senior citizens leap big contributions in shaping their community and families.
Here are some things we enjoy from them:
1. A Happier Outlook
Studies show that seniors are among the happiest groups of people, and that they are significantly more happy than their middle-aged counterparts.
Older people tend to have internal mechanisms to deal better with hardship or negative circumstances than those who are younger.
One lesson they always like to share to younger age is to be “more comfortable being themselves.”
2. Teaches us to Have More Time for Loved Ones
Retirement isn’t inherently joyful or relaxing — it’s how that time is used that makes it special.
But they were always the one who set up Sunday family dinner, holiday celebration and get together.
One of the best parts of retirement is spending time with family, friends and other loved ones.
3. They Inspires you to Pursue Your Dreams
They always have those words of encouragement and cheering moments. For you to go and be whatever you want. As they always at your back and being proud whatever happens.
4. Always Encourage us in Civics and Volunteering
Growing old provides a sense of broader perspective, and it often makes people inclined to focus much of their efforts and energy towards bettering society and creating a better world for future generations.
In addition to spending time with loved ones and pursuing passions and personal dreams, retired seniors have more time to be civically and politically involved, and they do just that.
Our senior citizens provide avenue and always encourage their families to get involved. Which is one way to be productive citizens.
5. Shares Wisdom and Empowering Young Ones
